Resilience considerations with increased Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration

18 janvier 2022
Grid resilience is becoming an increasingly important topic of strategic conversation and objective for communities with critical infrastructure and loads. In addition, the reliability of the grid requires to  withstand extreme conditions, notably extreme weather events such as hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires.Read More

Application of 5G Technology to Smart Grids

18 janvier 2022
To tackle the challenges of global warming, countries worldwide set ambitious goals to reduce carbon emissions in different industries. For example, the European Union (EU) and China aim to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050 and 2060, respectively.Read More

Electric performance of new non-SF6 gases and gas mixtures for gas-insulated systems

6 septembre 2021
Insulation gases are applied in electrical equipment such as Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and Lines (GIL), high- and medium-voltage circuit breakers and switches. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) is widely used for decades as insulation medium in electrical equipment. However, SF6 is also a strong greenhouse gas with a global warming potential (GWP) of 23,500 (i.e. one kg of SF6 released to the atmosphere contributes to global warming as 23.5t of CO2 would do).Read More

Energy price formation in wholesale electricity markets

6 septembre 2021
The structure of wholesale electricity markets impacts how prices are formed, and how accurately prices reflect the true cost of serving load. As the dynamics of the electric power sector change – especially the characteristics of the generation mix – there is a need to evaluate whether pricing mechanisms are adequately valuing wholesale electricity.Read More
