Cigré, the world forum for power systems

November 2017

Words from the President

Robert STEPHEN - CIGRE President

CIGRE has been attempting for a number of years to expand to cover the full end to end spectrum of power delivery from large generation to the meter and beyond the meter into internet of things applications. To this end CIGRE will be reviewing the scope of the Study Committees to include lower voltage applications. An example will be the transformer Study Committee can now look at MV/LV transformer design issues.  In addition it has been agreed that the Study Committees numbers will be increased to a maximum of 6 additional members from the lower voltage end of the power delivery spectrum.  These experts will have the task to introduce new topics as well as obtain experts in the lower voltage spectrum to ensure Working Groups can be effective in this area. CIGRE is also looking to work with CIRED, IEEE and other organizations to form Joint Working Groups in the lower voltage spectrum.  It is hoped that this will enable rapid formation and dissemination of solutions in this area.

In addition CIGRE is looking to set up a website and tools which can be used by National Committees to explain the nature of CIGRE, create their own websites at low cost for their own members in their own language and script, have access to webinars and other benefits.  This will provide for a consistent message and brand for CIGRE worldwide.  It will also enable smaller National Committees to provide a professional display to their members without having to develop their own marketing material.

There is a combined Technical Council and Steering Committee meeting in South Africa in November.  More information as to the outcome of these meetings will be shared in the next newsletter.

Thank you all for the ongoing support of CIGRE to the benefit of the industry.
