Cigré, the world forum for power systems

May 2018

Words from the President

Robert STEPHEN - CIGRE President

Dear Fellow Cigreans,

The Steering Committee meeting is to be held on 2 and 3 May in London and will deal with the finalization of the upcoming Paris Session as well as the marketing plan.  Both of these items are well advanced and include exciting developments.  The CEO event being planned on the Monday of the Session has attracted over 100 nominations.  This event should enable CIGRE to expose the Industry leaders to the benefits and working of CIGRE.  This is an attempt to educate leaders to the benefits of CIGRE to their organisations and staff development.  The Marketing plan aims to have a final set of material for National Committees to use.  This includes templates, presentations, website design and other useful material.  The National Committees can tailor the material to suit their own language and situation.  It will especially enable smaller committees to create websites and promotional material at minimal cost with support from Central Office.  This will also enable National Committees to focus on information dissemination rather than spend time with advertising material development.  CIGRE held talks with CIRED recently on areas of possible collaboration.  As there are limited resources available for Working Group work CIGRE is proposing joint Working Groups using the CIGRE structure and publication and management of Technical Brochures to assist CIRED in addressing certain topics.  CIGRE has also altered the scopes of the Study Committees to cover the “end to end” scope of power transmission and distribution at all voltages.  This strengthens CIGRE’s ability to conduct work in medium and low voltage areas.  As the time approaches for the upcoming Paris Session, I would urge you all to register and book accommodation well in time.  I would also like to thank all those putting in enormous effort in Working Groups, Study Committees, Administration Council and the Steering Committee.  This work is normally performed outside normal working hours.  I look forward to seeing you at a CIGRE event soon.
